Tips for Travel
I've been flying ever since I was baby. From my experiences, here are a few tips to help make the process smoother and be sure you won't suffer after.
Hygeine, Hygeine, Hygeine!
This is huge to ensure you don't get sick when you reach your destination! Traveling in itself is exhausting, leading to a more vulnerable immune system. Maybe consider wearing a well-fitted mask when you're crammed in a plane. You can also wipe down high-touch areas and sanitize whenever you return to your seat.
Have All Documents Handy
Since I didn't have my residence permit (visa) approved yet, I was very nervous to go through immigration. To feel more prepared, I printed out many documents such as proof of my applying for the residence permit, a copy of the photo page of my passport, travel insurance, and an acceptance letter for the college I was studying at. Thankfully, when asked about the residence permit, the immigration officer took my word for it.
Bringing Actual Snacks (Not Just Candy!)
Bring snacks like crackers, Chex mix, etc., when traveling. During my layover in LA, I caved and bought a $17 breakfast burrito that I hadn't even finished. Especially when you're traveling through cities with high sales taxes like LA or NYC, bring snacks so you don't succumb to hunger and use your money that can be used when you're abroad.
Hydrating and Resting
Lastly, make sure you take care of yourself! Of course, everyone says to hydrate, but most of the time, it is the root of your how you are feeling. For example, fatigue and headaches could be caused by dehydration. Also, rest whenever you can! If you're alone and in the airport this could be difficult. But when you sit in the plane, take a couple of Zzzs. For many, it's harder said than done but it'll greatly benefit you.
